Metocin (4-HO-MET) – 10mg Tablets
4-HO-MET (Metocin) is a close structural analog of psilocin. It is a potent 5-HT2A agonist with similar in-vitro potency and mouse head-twitch ED50 to psilocin.
There are no dedicated studies measuring BDNF or structural plasticity after 4-HO-MET itself. The expectation that it can promote neuroplasticity is an extrapolation from the well-characterized 4-hydroxytryptamine / classic-psychedelic class.
Neuroplasticity and BDNF (Inferred Mechanism)
Classic serotonergic psychedelics (psilocin, LSD, DMT, DOI, etc.) trigger a cascade that includes:
- 5-HT2A activation on cortical pyramidal neurons
- A glutamate burst and AMPA-receptor stimulation
- BDNF release and TrkB signaling
- mTOR-dependent dendritic growth, spine formation, and synaptic strengthening
Some work also shows LSD and psilocin can bind TrkB directly at high affinity and potentiate endogenous BDNF signaling independently of 5-HT2A.
Because 4-HO-MET occupies the same primary receptor with comparable efficacy, it is expected to engage the same downstream plasticity pathways.
Direct confirmation (spine counts, BDNF protein, or TrkB phosphorylation after 4-HO-MET) is not currently established.
